about

Having been at the 1977 Tent City protests at Kent State University, I came away with this song. The original studio version is on Wood and Wire. On this coffee house version with The Strangs, we were joined by Erik Diaz.

Hear The Rising Wind ©Jim Ballard 1977, 2011
(Tent City...Kent State, 1977)

Hear the rising wind across the hill
If it weren’t for him i’d be there still

But you can laugh and cry and sing your song
There may be nobody near you
But if you laugh and cry and sing your song
Somebody’s gonna hear you

All the paper houses in the wind
Waitin for the hard rain to begin
All the weary children in the rain
Never meant to have this kinda pain

But you can laugh and cry and sing your song
There may be nobody near you
But if you laugh and cry and sing your song
Somebody’s gonna hear you

Are you there? Hold your candle to the night
Let your lovin eyes drink in the light
Hear the rising wind across the hill
If it weren’t for him i’d be there still...

But you can laugh and cry and sing your song
There may be nobody near you
But if you laugh and cry and sing your song
Somebody’s gonna hear you
Somebody’s gonna hear you
Somebody’s gonna hear you
